Electrical Engineering

College or University: University of California, Santa Cruz

Type of degree: B.S.

Brief overview of program: UCSC’s four-year electrical engineering degree program provides a balance of engineering science and design. The curriculum is challenging, yet flexible enough to meet special interests and needs. Undergraduates have opportunities to assist faculty with research and publish papers in academic journals. In addition to completing UCSC's general education requirements, EE students must complete 15 lower-division science and engineering courses, plus associated laboratories; seven upper-division engineering courses, plus associated laboratories; three engineering electives; and a comprehensive senior design project course. After the first two years, EE students focus on one of the following specialty areas: Electronics/Optoelectronics, including digital and analog devices, VLSI design, optoelectronics and electromagnetics; or Communications, Signals & Systems, including optical, wireless, signal processing, control, and networks. Because the curriculum is rigorous, students must be prepared to begin course work for the major in their first quarter. Prospective transfer students should complete a course of study that parallels the lower-division requirements for the major.
